  • The Tairua trolling lure

    Māori Court East, Ground Floor

    Visitors were enthralled by the Tairua lure, discovered on an excavation site in 1964, and confirmed as Eastern Polynesian, having been brought here by the Polynesian settlers of Aotearoa.

    This was the first year the Lantern Festival was held at the Domain on the doorstep of Auckland Museum after its many year tenure in Albert Park, and the crowds came out in droves to celebrate the Year of the Monkey.
