  • Alan Winston (Bill) McCoy was a much-loved uncle of mine, my mother’s brother. I knew him and his wife, my Aunt Zita, very well while I was a young medical student and then doctor in Auckland. They lived at 17 Martin Ave, Remuera. They had one son, Alistair, whom I also knew well, a former St Kentigern’s School pupil, who moved to America and worked with his influential New Orleans uncle, who had married my Aunt Zita’s sister Erla. He married in America and remains there. Bill was a well-known Auckland Plunket Shield cricketer before the war and a bank manager after till his retirement and death in the 1970s in his seventies.
