  • Obituary
1971 - LADY STOUT - Agnes Isobel Stout who died recently at the age of 80, was one of the few woman ambulance drivers in England for the NZ General Hospital at Brockenhurst; she was awarded an MBE for this work.
She was a member of the prganisation which was the forerunner of the Wellington Returned Servicewomen's Branch. In 1925 was held the 4th annual renunion dinner of women who had served overseas; and afterwards they all gathered in the lounge of the Grand Hotel, and decided to form an association, which started off with the title of NZ Overseas Women War-workers Association. Mrs Stout was elected to the committee in 1928, and was still a member when in 1948 the association amalgamated with the newly formed Wellington Returned Servicewomen's Branch. In the meantime, the name had changed to Ex-service Overseas Women's Association, and in 1946 to Returned Nursing Services Association (RSA).
Lady Stout worked for the NZ Red Cross during World War II, and was in charge of Hospital provisions. For many years she was a member of the Women's Convalescent Home in oriental Bay, which was recently closed. It's function has been taken over by a wing at the new Bown Hospital, and is named after her. Public - Lorraine M - Researcher - 24 January 2017 - Newspaper Report
