  • Ernest Mead is my Great Great Uncle, my grandmother's Uncle. He was the only son in the Mead family. It would have been so sad for his parents and for his 6 sisters (I think) when they would have heard news of his death in the Passchendaele campaign. My family and I will lay a poppy at his memorial cross next year (April 2017) in Cranmer Square, Christchurch. Respect to you Uncle, Marie Yeo

  • My wife and I visited Ernest's memorial at Tyne Cot, Belgium, in 2002, where we laid a poppy and reflected on his life, contribution to his country, and ultimate death. Although his short life ended so tragically on the other side of the world, he will never be forgotten and we would love to visit his resting place again some time in the future. John Whiteman, Great Nephew of Ernest Mead.
