  • Hilford was one of my grandmother's twelve children. I only ever met her youngest child Herbert at my auntie's funeral in 1983, also the year he died. But my uncle's wife did some research on the Haora family, some of it she passed onto me. I am grateful for that information - I was adopted, removed from my Maori roots - otherwise I'd never have known who they were or that Hilford and his two other brothers John and Walter had served in the first world war. We will remember them.

  • Hilford was my fathers brother. I did speak to his wife a number of years ago. She was living in Auckland at the time. Not sure who my cousin are.
