  • After returning from Gallipolli in WW1, my grandfather moved from Maketu to Wellington. He married Irene Emma Joss. They had 7 children (James, Doreen, Audrey, Drummond, Wallace and Sally-Ann). In 1957, at a whanau hui, in Wellington, he changed the whanau surname and his surname, from Wikiriwhi to Whitecliffe.
