  • After arriving in England, O'Brien spent a few weeks at the Royal Engineers Camp at Christchurch, near Bournemouth before transfer to France. "By January 1918 he was no longer capable of undertaking an active life owing to a cerebral tumour. He spent several weeks in stationary hospitals in France before admission to No.1 NZGH, Brockenhurst on 4 March. He survived a further four months." (Church, p.215) AWMM
