  • Our Pop, Piha Peter Tapine, Service no 39602 served 1939-1945. I met a man who turned out to be my Pops nephew and namesake. He told me when his mother(pops sister) was hapu with him, worried that he wouldnt return he asked that the baby be named after him. That baby was named Peter Tapine Waaka. My Pop did return and had his own son also named Peter who had my dad another Peter! From my Pops marriage to my Nanny Oriwia Ranapia and from their Son and my nan Mereana King , he has a legacy of 14 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and 42 greatgreat grandchildren a total of 94 descendants, not including partners and the first great x3 grandchild is due this year. Our pop passed away in 1993 a good innings I reckon especially as he thought he'd never come home from war. Thanks Pop xxx
