- MAORI HALF-BACK TO PLAY LEAGUE
The Taranaki Maori scrum-half Robert Hohaia arrived in London recently to play Rugby League for Bradford Northern. He intends to stay with another New Zealander in the club, George Harrison, who used to play for the same club as Hohaia. Hohaia was met at London by the team manager, Mr Dai Rees, and at Bradford was welcomed by Mr R. C. Yablon and Mr L. Dobson, directors of the club, and an enthusiastic group of supporters. He will be joined soon by the former Rugby All Black full-back, George Gilbert, who is on his way to England and who will also play for Bradford Northern. (MAORI HALF-BACK TO PLAY LEAGUE, Southland Times, Issue 23441, 23 February 1938, Page 14) AWMM - Robert played for Bradford Northern (rugby league) having been signed in January 1938. On his arrival he was greeted by 200 supporters. He was 23 years old, 5 feet 8 inches tall, and weighted 12 stone.Public - Victoria - Researcher - 12 March 2025 - Halifax Evening Courier (UK), 25/01/1938, p.2.
