  • Hapū
Te Whanau a Tuwhakairiora Public - Jesamine - Other relative - 25 April 2017 - Both Uncle Ted's parents, the Reverend Matauru Wanoa and his wife, Ripeka Cosgrove, identified themselves as Te Whanau a Tuwhakairiora, as did my grandparents Ben Wanoa and Ngarangi Kamaea Kaika nee Wanoa. So it just makes sense that my grandfather's brother, Uncle Ted, would identify the same. Although Uncle Ted could also claim to be Te Whanau a Te Aotaihi, as this is the female tipuna of our whare tipuna on our home marae, Awatere Marae on Whakaangiangi Rd in Te Araroa.
  • Waka
Horouta Public - Jesamine - Other relative - 25 April 2017 - Our oral traditions in our pepeha are as follows:
    Ko Hikurangi te maunga
    Ko Waiapu te awa
    Ko Horouta te waka
    Ko Ngati Porou te iwi
Ko te whanau a Tuwhakairiora, ko te whanau a Hinerupe, ko te whanau a Te Aotaihi hoki nga hapu.
Ko Awatere, ko Hinerupe hoki nga marae.
