  • Kia ora Papa, I just want to say thank you for contribution in protecting our whenua and our people with the Māori Battalion in World War II. This year I have had a kōrero with your mokopūna Jet about you and your brother's being in the war. And how you went to fight in Africa with the Māori Battalion. I know you were injured shot in the leg with a bullet and had to return home. We are so fortunate that you survived and were able to come home safely. You were so brave and I am so incredibly proud of you and it made me very emotional to talk about this to my tama. It was an honour to make a presentation for him to share with his class mates of you and our great Uncles. I also found out that Uncle Tamati fought in World War I, I didn't know that before. Aroha tino nui Papa xxxx
