      5 November 1942 AWMM
During the attack on Deir El Munassib Depression on the night 3/4 September 1942, Lt. Tikao-Barrett was the Platoon Commander of the right forward platoon of a leading company. His platoon was most heavily engaged during the whole of the attack and inflicted very heavy casualties on the enemy, overrunning five medium machine-gun posts. Lt. Tikao-Barrett showed high qualities of leadership, keeping control of his platoon in a difficult sector in the dark and under heavy fire and continually by his personal example of courage and initiative, inspired his men to further efforts until he was severely wounded. He was an inspiration to all with whom he came in contact. (London Gazette 5/11/1942 (I)) The National Archives. Recommendation for Award for Tikao-Barrett, John Piurak. (Ref. WO 373/22/46).
