  • Hi there my name is Ngaronoa Lazarus, this man is my grandfather. I was born after his death. This is the only memory left of him. My father has no photos of him ! Just story's. If anyone has photos or any great story about him, I would love to know. I've always wondered my grandfathers personality and looks. Thank you

  • I met Dick Lazarus when I first started employment at the Auckland International Airport in 1967 as an Electrician working for the now AIAL Dick was a large Maori workman who was very quiet but genial, a true gentleman. I regarded him as a friend Unfortunately he had a serious accident and only afterwards I was told of his exploits during the Second World War while in the Maori Battalion. Whilst under fire he was shot in the stomach and was seriously wounded but not many people knew his history. Obviously a great sacrifice he made to his life which should not be forgotten RIP Dick
