  • Thanks for what you did for this country and your family. I wish I could have met you and judging by the stories that Koro tells us its seems like you were a hard working good man.

  • Miss you always, love you always Grandpa. Memories abound of growing up with you and Nana. I am so proud of the legacy you have left us, your grandchildren.
You spoke very rarely about the war, but like you always said "you got to come home when so many of your friends and relatives did not".
I honour you and their memories. E kore koutou e warewaretia, ko koutou nga whetu e tiaho mai i te po.

  • A loving and caring father who signed up to the Maori Battalion at age 17 to go and fight for his country. He spoke highly of his comrades and especially of his officers. He had many fond memories of his travels through Italy but rarely spoke of the war.

A gentle, loving, kind hearted father of 12 children and a faithful husband to his late wife, Ruby. He is survived by 8 sons and 3 daughters and many, many grandchildren.

May he rest in Love and Peace with Mum.

Lots of love Phil and whānau x
