The Maori Battalion, Second N.Z.E.F. has recently suffered further casualties including a number of men from the Gisborne and East Coast area. Most of these have been wounded, but one death in action reported is that of Private Henare Potae, Tokomaru Bay. Private Potae was 30 years of age and a member of a family which from the earliest days of white settlement in the district had been noted for its loyalty. He left for the front in February, 1942, and had seen considerable service in the forward areas. He is a married man with one child.
