Japanese POW 9283
Member of the 'Goldfish Club'. During a search for a Japanese Convoy in the Gulf of Siam, on December 25, 1941 the Aircraft caught on fire after engagement with Japanese Aircraft. The crew performed a stall landing on the sea, the aircraft blew up shortly before the Dinghy could be floated, the Captain, Navigato and Scales (2nd Pilot), were blown out of the Aircraft without their Mae-Wests. They spent about 9 hours in the water and 10 hours in the dinghy. One of the squadron aircrafts found them and dropped two dinghies into the water. The sea was very rough at this stage and they were eventually picked up and taken back to the Seletar Air Base in Singapore (Goldfish Club). AWMM
