At Platanias on 21 May this warrant officer did excellent work in leading a party of men from Battalion HQ in cleaning up parachutists who had landed in the battalion and Divisional Engineer areas. He personally accounted for many of the enemy, who had already come into action. On 22 May, during the attack on Maleme he personally led several small bodies of our men in bayonet rushes against enemy posts and machine-guns. Later, when the attack had stopped, he and a soldier stalked and accounted for at least two enemy machine-gunners and two snipers. During these operations he received a bullet wound in the side of the chest, but would not be evacuated. This warrant officer is apparently fearless and throughout operations in Greece and Crete has set the highest possible example to all ranks. (L.G.30/12/1941) AWMM

  • I married Captain Wood's daughter in 1976 in the USA. She is Adrienne Blanche (Wood) Meyers. We live in the USA but visit family here in New Zealand several times. We are in NZ as I type this. I have come to respect who Captain Wood was by his love for family and New Zealand. My wife and I have three children. They too carry a love and respect for his life. May peace be with all who were blessed by Ace Wood's life.
