Louis Fisher was the son of Michael Fisher and Fanny (nee Dabscheck).

He was from a family of three boys and three girls: Woolf; Lou (61002) and Gus (260543); Miriam (married name Collinson); Florence (married name Robinson) and Pearl (married name Lerner).

Lou married in London where he had met his bride Iris (nee Romoff) while on leave. They were married on the 2nd of September 1945 at the Great Synagogue in London. They had 4 children Janet, Stephen, Susanne and Frances.

He was the Managing Director of L.J.Fisher Co. Ltd in 1946 and developed the Decramastic roof tile and fabricated aluminum joinery.

His hobbies were horse riding and sailing.

Lou and his brother Woolf were noted horse breeders; they started in Pakuranga and Mt Wellington, Auckland.

Lou conceptualised then founded the Spirit of Adventure Trust, the Youth Development Programme on the sea. In 1973 Lou Fisher gifted the Spirit of Adventure, a topsail schooner, to the nation. His son, Stephen, has continued to chair and steer the Trust for more than 40 years.

Lou was involved in other philanthropic and community activities. Notably he was involved in building the canoe house at Waitangi, Bay of Islands sited next to the Treaty House. Lou also helped wherever he could at the Waititi Marae in Glen Eden, Auckland.

In other business realms he was actively involved with the Tourist Hotel Corporation of N.Z.

His brother, Gus Fisher (260543) also served in WW2.
