Biographical information
- H. T. Upton (PG 52)
Letter: 17 September
Both Geoff and I have been very lucky with Red Cross clothing and are luckier than most with our mail. We've both had a fine next-of-kin parcel from home and I've not only had 2 cigarette parcels and another next-of-kin parcel from England but a food parcel from Egypt. Mail day is our greatest pleasure. I'm sending my letter each week by airmail and hope that it will reach you earlier. We pay 2.75 lira and it should make a difference. We get an allowance of 1.20 lira per day and can buy a little in the canteen.

Letter 1: 2 September
This week has been a good one, 3 letters from NZ, one from England, half a Red Cross parcel. 2 NZ doctors have joined the camp. Our supply of Red Cross parcels ran out a week ago and another load came up on Sunday, which included some from NZ. We were issued with one between 2 of us but so far no NZ ones have been issued. I'm very keen to see what Friday's half will be. The 2 doctors who have joined us here are Bryan Lusk and Bob Burns, both from my old unit; it's grand to have them here.
Letter 2: 23 September
It's funny how good times always seem to follow bad ones. It has been a dreary week and we were getting "browned off" when today I got 10 letters. We had had no parcel issue for the past 4 regular days and were feeling it a bit, when a load arrived up here in the camp. It makes a great difference to us.
