  • I just tracked this young soldier and some of his history from a footnote my father wrote when he researched the family tree in the days before internet.i can see harry was the son of abraham rushton walker and so the brother of my paternal grandmother.originally from manchester he emigrated to New Zealand with his brother he joined up in ww1 and arrived in the uk then was killed a few months later in Belgium.the date matches the vimy ridge assault.new zealander's were there and took heavy casualties as did the canadians. My dad noted killed at vimy also known as battle of arras he appears on a memorial but I believe no body was found so no grave. I notice he was a miner. So it's possible he was part of the New Zealand tunnelling company in that period of the war.
