  • Mr W. J. Parker, of Railway Villa, Makaraka, has been officially advised of the sad news that Trooper Arthur Ward (9/1620) was killed in action in France on 15th September. He left Gisborne with the 7th Reinforcements 12 months ago, and was working on the Waihau station for Mr Rowley Murphy when he enlisted. He was well known around the Coast and Tokomaru Bay and also Te Karaka district He was born in Adelaide, South Australia, and was only 28 years old.
