  • Watson initially enlisted with the NZEF on 15 January 1915. He was discharged three weeks later from training camp with the 4 Reinforcements by reason of a weak back.

    A weeks after arriving at Sling Camp, Watson transferred to the New Zealand Engineers Reserve Depot at Boscombe, near Bournemouth. (Church, p.222)

    In February 1918 Watson was admitted to No.1 NZGH, Brockenhurst with tuberculosis of the lung. He survived less than two months longer. (Church, p.222) AWMM
