- John Allen was the son of John Candlish Allen and Alice Matilda Allen (nee Manchester); husband of Ethne May Birch Allen, of Piako.
Member of Parliament for Hauraki (1938-41)
Commanding Officer of 21 Battalion, 17 May-28 November 1941.
Member of the Auckland Institute and Museum.
