  • Members of the Gage Whanau have tried for many years to visit the war graves in Sollum Egypt with no success the closest they could was El Alamein near Alexandria.

Long story short we made the journey to Sollum in June 2023, we took some sea weed, shells and a assortment of stones from outside of the Otuwhare and Nuku Marae.

  • Kia ora e Koro Although i will never meet you, I am your eldest grandson from your eldest son Popata Gage. I have 2 brothers and a whangai sister, Nathan Rangi Tautua, Morgan Popata and Darnae Tanya Louise, you have 7 great grandchildren Kearn Herewini, Karley Te Aorangi, Zion Bo Herewini, Reef Adlam Popata, Hoani, Tyler and Tamia. Every ANZAC day my brothers parade yours and your sons medals with pride, and we have a proud heritage of having a soldier in our family, Morgan being the latest and not the last. My father said that if I was to visit your grave 1 day that I was to take some dirt from the East Coast (Tawhitinui) and bury it with you. I know your grave is plot 9 row 9 and I will be there one day. Arohanui e Koro Deane Gage
