Son of Robert Kingston Chamberlain and Ellen Mary Chamberlain, of Wanganui.

Two sons, brothers Robert Guy Chamberlain (11/23) and Henry Kingston Chamberlain (24/1614) died in WW1.

"Died suddenly on September 25th, 1919, from heart failure. He had been home a bare week after serving his country for four years, and was to all outward appearance strong and well. Leaving New Zealand with the 9th Reinforcements, he sailed direct to France, where he saw much heavy fighting in the neighbourhood of Armentieres, before being wounded at the Somme battles in 1916. At the time of his enlistment he held an important position in the N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Company's office, work to which he was returning at the time of his death. All three brothers answered their country's call, two have died and a third is compelled to suffer for the remainder of his life owing to very severe wounds received in France."
