L/CPL. HETA TAMAHORI The death occurred in Wellington last Saturday of L/Corporal Heta Tamahori, who had recently been invalided home from the Middle East. L/Corporal Tamahori was the third son of the late Rev. Pine Tamahori and Mrs. M Baker, of Kakariki, East Coast. He was born in Tuparoa and educated at Te Aute College and left Gisborne on July 10, 1941, to enter the army, proceeding overseas in January, 1943. Prior to enlistment, he was a member of the staff of the Native Department, Gisborne, and was held in great respect by all members of the staff; ' The mortal remains of the deceased arrived from Wellington on Tuesday morning and were conveyed to Poho-o-Rawiri, where a short service was held to enable Gisborne friends and fellow-workers to pay their last ‘respects to a comrade who had given his life for his Country arid the cause of freedom. After the ceremony, which was largely attended by both Europeans and Maoris, the casket was carried by members of the Native Land Court to the waiting car, which was to convey the body to the East Coast for interment. Those left to mourn are his mother and the Rev. John Tamahori. George, overseas, Henare, R.N.Z.A.F., Phillip, Native Department, Wellington, Rangi and Hana Tamahori.
