This soldier showed outstanding courage and resourcefulness. Airing an attack on Point 29 on the night of 1/2 November 1942. When his section commander fell wounded, he took control in an attack on enemy machine-gun posts. Annihilating the forward elements of the enemy with hand grenades and bayonets. He led his men further to the next line of pits. His whole section ultimately became casualties and he then joined other members of his company, and boldly led them forward again. It was his courage, determination and brilliant leadership that enabled his company to gain it's final objective. (London Gazette 28/1/1943 (I)) AWMM
