The first part of his task was accomplished under enemy fire. He could not keep up with the rear-guard, therefore remained behind and carried the wounded soldier for two days behind the enemy lines. He became so exhausted in the end he decided to place the wounded soldier near a roadway and return to the unit, which he had accomplished, having to evade several bodies of the enemy in doing so.
