  • My grandmother, 'Nanny Mac', is your sister, Matiria.
I have seen photos of my Nan in her younger days and she was beautiful and had beautiful, long hair.
I have been told of how you loved her long hair and that before you left for the war, you asked her to 'not cut her hair.' You never did return from the war and I want you to know that Nan didn't cut her hair and she kept it long for you. She only cut her hair when Nanny Lena died around 1970.
The aroha between you and my Nan still resonates to our hearts even to this day.
    Arohanui,
    Lee-Michaele xxx

  • Your photo hung on the wall all of our childhood. Our Mum, your sister Matiria, loved you so much & treasured your letters. You called her the nickname, ' Marj'.
I'm sorry we never got to meet you in person but our whanau never forget you.
My eldest son is named after you.
    From your niece,
    Sylvia
    (Matiria's daughter)
