Lieutenant Wattie H. McKay was an outstanding figure in sporting circles in Gisborne for some years. He represented Poverty Bay at hockey and football for several seasons, played Rugby for the Maoris against an Australian visiting team, and won honours in Wairoa and Hawke’s Bay after his departure from Gisborne. A school teacher at Waerenga-a-hika College at one time, he had a considerable degree of literary talent. Public - Lorraine Mona - Researcher - 9 November 2023 - N.Z.E.F. CASUALTIES
