  • Today I get to bow to you and offer up my tears and my heartfelt thanks for your great sacrifice. I am so proud of all you did to fight for the freedom we enjoy today. I wish it didn't mean you would never return. My father was only 6 or 7 when you left home that last time. Noone knew if you would return to the shores of Whangara, but everyone hoped. None moreso than your parents Karaitiana and Wikitoria Poki. Well, there were more than your parents and siblings and whanau, because I only recently discovered that you had a wife and three children. I will look for them and return here one day and place them where they belong, next to you. I find consolation in the thought that the place you are buried is by to the sea in Egypt, and your home Whangara is by the sea in New Zealand. I love that we have always been connected by the sea. God be with you 'til we meet again. 💜
