  • He was only 2o years old. His brother Dan (my grandfather) was a doctor who survived and returned to New Zealand. He died before I was born.

    Report
  • Norman was my Great Great Uncle (my grandads uncle). Lately I've been learning a lot about ANZAC day because of the celebration of 100 years and of course I never got to meet him and neither did my grandad, it would have been nice too though, I feel he was very humble. I'm looking forward to searching him up more and finding facts about his life but I think I have that information in my house :) And the last thing I know is that his younger brother was 15 when Norman went to war and that after Norman passed away in WW1, his brother Dan contributed in WW2.
    Public - Juliette - Sibling - 26 April 2015
    Report
  • Norman was my father's brother. He would have gone to Timaru Boys' High School and been prominent in sport. He probably would have become a doctor as three of his brothers subsequently did. An absolute tragic end to such a young spirit !. I was always told that he was killed in France but the army records show otherwise.
    Public - Ian Stewart Crawford - Other Relative - 24 April 2015
    Report
  • When I look into Norman's eyes, I think "cannon fodder"! What a waste of life! He was my great uncle and he had two brothers who served in WWI, one of which was my grandfather. They were both medics and I don't think they were at Gallipoli.
