Thomas Emery is my grandfather. He was born at Te Kopua Te Awamutu NZ in 1888 and died Oct 5th 1959 age 72yrs. In the last 2yrs of his life he resided with his son Tawio Emery in Kihikihi, Te Awamutu.
He was a WW1 vet who saw service at Gallipoli and the Western Front in France. He was mentioned in despatches by General Haig. I am aware thru stories from my father, that my grandfather made every efford to retrieve dead and wounded during battle. He suffered a number of schrapnel injuries but always returned to the front line to lead those men under him. I will be attending the dawn parade in Sydney to remember my grandfather and I will wear a replica of his medals in his honour.
