    • Private Ruru Nathan # 60824 of the 31 Reinforcements NZ Maori Pioneer Battalion was Louis's brother. Public - Lorraine M - Researcher - 23 January 2017 - Military Record
    • This branch of the Nathan family are descended from the original convict families of the same name and also of the family name Joseph. the first convict was Nathan Nathan aged 16, sentenced to 7 years in 1799. His daughter Rebecca later followed her fiance Moses Joseph to NSW. He was also a convict. Between those two initial newcomers they each brought 9 siblings. other relatives also followed most involuntarily. When NZ was colonized the Nathan bros when to the Bay of Plenty and later to Auckland and Wellington, where some of the descentants remain. the family know of the liasons with local Maori women who, in some cases adopted the name or variants of it.
