  • Donald Simson was the son of Hector Norman Simson and Margaret Simpson of Auckland.

    Two brothers, Donald (N/N; 4/642A) and Herbert Simson (Royal Flying Corps), served in World War 1.

    Donald enlisted in England, commenced duty for WW1 on 23 September 1914 and was commissioned as Captain by 28 September 1914.

    He served with the NZ Engineers (British Section) at Gallipoli.

    Founded and was elected first President of the Returned Services Association, New Zealand.

    On return to active service he was also one of the founders and appointed Honorary Secretary of the Empire Services League. AWMM
