  • Edric Williams was the son of James Nelson Williams and Mary Margaret Williams.

Husband of Christina Barbara nee McKenzie; father of Maggie Mary born 1913.

"Joined the N.Z.F.A. at Featherston Camp, hoping to get away as soon as possible. Unfortunately his wishes were never fulfilled owing to ill-health, which on more than one occasion interfered with his training, and finally deprived him of his life. Few of the many who have passed through this School have been more universally beloved than he was. Fortunate in worldly possessions, money had no value for him except in the power that it gave to do kind and helpful things to others. His friends were in all classes of society, though he never courted popularity. At all times natural, he simply could not show side, and loathed anything at all underhand. In every mood, whether serious or humorous, he was never anything but a gentleman, and his death, coming as it did after the armistice had been signed, made the sorrow to his friends only greater. Had it not been for his kindly nature and self-sacrifice during the influenza epidemic, he might have been alive to-day. At the time of his death, in November, 1918, he was Battery Sergeant-Major." (In Memoriam, 1914-1918 [Wanganui Collegiate School]) AWMM

The sad news has been received that Mr Edric Beetham Williams, youngest son of the late Mr J. N. Williams, of Hawke’s Bay died at Featherston Camp on Friday from pneumonia, supervening on influenza. He had completed his training and was to have sailed with the next reinforcement. Deceased had two brothers—Mr H. B. Williams and Mr A B Williams —in this district, and one brother—Mr C. N. D. Williams in Hawke’s Bay. It will also be learned with deep regret that his widow is in a critical state at Featherston with pneumonia, there is one child, only three days old Public - Lorraine Mona - Researcher - 8 June 2022 - Research & newspaper reports
