    Private Kelly was baptized in the Catholic Church 2 days after his birth. However, before his baptism, he was abandoned by his birth Mother and Father in Wexford, Ireland. Thomas Kelly was then christened as Richard P Grennell, as his adoptive families surname was originally "Grannal" (Or "Grannel", "Grannall"), In Ireland, but then was anglicized to "Grennell" in Liverpool, England, in 1891, when Thomas Kelly and his adoptive family moved to Liverpool from Wexford.
