    Proceeded overseas to France, 4 April 1916.
    Wounded in action, 31 August 1916 (gun shot wound, left forearm), and admitted to 63rd West Lancashire Field Ambulance; transferred to 42nd Casualty Clearing Station, 1 September 1916; to No 2 General Hospital, Havre, 5 September 1916; to England, 7 September 1916, and admitted to No 1 NZ General Hospital, Brockenhurst. Transferred to NZ Convalescent Hospital, Hornchurch, 31 October 1916; discharged on furlough, 31 January 1917, to report to NZ Reserve Depot, Boscombe, 15 February 1917.
    Proceeded overseas to France, 3 July 1917; rejoined Tunnelling Company, in the field, 13 July 1917.
    Detached to England for training for a temporary Imperial Commission, 13 October 1918.
    Appointed Temporary Corporal, 1 February 1919.
    Commenced return to New Zealand from Southampton on board HT 'Willochra', 8 March 1919; disembarked Wellington, 15 April 1919; discharged, 13 May 1919.
