    • Carleton Flavell was the son of William Alfred and Elizabeth Flavell, of Maori Rd., Dunedin, New Zealand.

      New Zealand at the Front (a magazine written and published and illustrated in France by men of the New Zealand Division) 1917 issue, page141. AWMM
    • Corporal Carleton Flavell, son of Mr W. A. Flavell, Wellington, manager of the Westport Coal Company, who was killed in action at Messines on June 7, forwarded the following notice which was handed to him in April last "To all concerned - Colonel Cook wishes me to convey to all members of the covering party on the night of April 19 and 20 his appreciation of their conduct in No Mans' Land under arduous circumstances. He specially mentioned the pluck of Carleton Flavell and all his party in sticking to their post under heavy bomb and rifle fire.— G.H. Davy Lieut.
