  • The funeral of Mr Teuri HEREWINI, who died in the Cook Hospital took place at Manutuke yesterday. A large number of friends, included a contingent of European fellow-workers from the Waterside Workers' Union, was present. The tangi, was held at Whakato pa. The body was then conveyed to the family cemetery, where the service was completed. The pallbearers consisted of Members from the Waterside Workers’ Union & Maori Returned Soldiers’ Assoc. Mr. Herewini came of a well-known C.O.E family. His late grandfather Mr Anaru Matete, was one of the original members of the 1st mission school at Whakato. The deceased was aged 47yrs. When the Great War broke out he was amongst the 1st to offer his services, & left with the 1st Maori Contingent. He is survived by his wife & a family of 4.
