Paratawa Tewai

Mr Te Wai was born in Tokomaru Bay, where the funeral was held. He served with the Maori Battalion in World War I, and enlisted with the Air Force in 1941.   • During WW1, Paretawa Tewai served in Egypt and France, being wounded. He joined the RNZAF in 1941 as ACH (GD) becoming Sergeant Instructor with the Aerodrome Defence Units (ADU) in 1943.

    In 1946 he became an Air Training Corps (ATC) Instructor for the Auckland province, a post he held for 13 years. His BEM was awarded for his ATC service particularly to the secondary school units throughout the Auckland area.ATC Instructor - Northern Area Recruiting & Reserve Centre, RNZAF (Auckland)
