- MR. MARK TUHAKA - Death has claimed another from the band of Maori returned soldiers on the Coast in the person of Mr Mark Tuhaka. The: deceased soldier was the son of a well-known native resident and a grandson of the late Captain Tuhaka, a Maori War veteran. He is survived by his father, four brothers, and a sister. Two brothers of the deceased were also at the war. The late Mr. Tuhaka went away with the second Maori contingent, and was wounded and gassed on the Ypres sector. Death took place at Te Puia Hospital on Sunday morning. The body was sent to Tikitiki on Monday, where a big tangi was held. The deceased was well known and popular in the Tokomaru Bay district, where, about two years ago, he was working for Mr. F. Peryer. Later he was engaged in bushfelling and other work about, the district.Public - Lorraine Mona - Researcher - 12 May 2025 - OBITUARY - Poverty Bay Herald, Volume LV, Issue 16872, 8 February 1929, Page 2
