Obituary read: "Private advice has been received in Gisborne of the death from wounds of Captain F. M. Twisleton, of the Auckland Mounted Rifles. Captain Twisleton went with the second reinforcements, taking with him into camp forty members of the Poverty Bay squadron of the Legion of Frontiersmen. They were attached to the Otago Mounted Rifles to make up deficiencies. Captain Twisleton gained the Military Cross for service on Gallipoli. When the troops were sent to France the Otago Mounted Rifles under his command were formed into a company of the Pioneer Battalion, and he served with them throughout the Somme and Messines operations. Latterly there was further reorganization, and Captain Twisleton, who had been suffering in health, applied for a transfer to Palestine. This was apparently granted, as he is listed with the Auckland Mounted Rifles. Mrs. Twisleton and children are at present residing in England." (Auckland Weekly News, 29 November 1917, p. 20)

- Obituary
- Obituary: Auckland Weekly News, 29 November 1917, p. 20 AWMM
- DEATH OF CAPTAIN TWISLETON. Advice was received last evening announcing that Captain F. M. Twisleton, who was reported in our last issue;, to have been wounded had died of wounds received in action in France. The announcement of the death of Captain Twisleton will be received with deep regret locally, and much sympathy will be extended towards his wife and two children, who are now in England. As mentioned |Previously, Captain Twisleton was farming in the Waimata Valley prior to enlisting with a body of local Frontiersmen, of whom he was the head executive officer for the Dominion when he left for camp. Wounded at Gallipoli he also suffered severely from, illness, but on his recovery joined up with the Pioneers, with whom he has rendered distinguished service. As a man and soldier, Captain Twisleton was held in the highest respect and it is generally. understood that on being drafted to the Otago Mounted Rifles with the second reinforcements he declined promotion in order to remain with the Frontiersmen who accompanied him from Gisborne.
Born in Yorkshire, he was about 50 years of age, and all associated with him will morn the loss of a gallant comrade.Public - Lorraine Mona - Researcher - 7 September 2023 - POVERTY BAY HERALD, VOLUME XLIV, ISSUE 14461, 22 NOVEMBER 1917, PAGE 3
