    • Piripi Waara's Military Record reports that Piripi death was from Drowning at Tolaga Bay 5 April 1918 - these are the following reports found:-
      April 1918 - The Gisborne police have been advised that a young Maori man, named Te Piripi Wharu, (aka Waara) aged 25 years, married, is missing, and is supposed to have been drowned. He was returning home to Mangatuna from Tolaga Bay on horseback. He was seen riding towards the ford, about a mile away. That was the last seen of him. His horse and saddle were found, but no trace of the missing man could be discovered.

      The body of the native Piripi Waru (aka Waara), who was drowned at Mangatokerau crossing on the 15th inst. has been recovered, and the district Coroner (Mr. W. A. Barton, SM.,) has issued instruction for an inquest, to he held. The deceased was a married man, and was employed on Taihimata station, Tolaga Bay Public - Lorraine M - Researcher - 15 February 2016 - Otago Daily Times, 15 April 1918 & Poverty Bay Herald, 27 April 1918
