  • Joe Wharekura is my grandfather. My mother is Maora Maureen Wharekura - his daughter. I am named after his wife. Koro was a great learned man. His faith was his life. This information is new for myself and my sisters. We were unaware of this part of Koro's life. Thank you for sharing this. Koro and nanny Taiti were also recipients of the NZ Ahuwhenua Farming Trophy in the 1930s. This was presented to them by the Governor General of the time. They moved from Nuhaka to Horohoro, Rotorua as part of Sir Apirana Ngata's farming project.
