  • Born at Ohinewaiapu, on the East Cape between Te Araroa and Tikitiki, in the Gisborne Distict on the 28th of September 1886. He would have been one of the first to sign up in New Zealand, signing his military attestation wtih the name Ihaia Wirihana on the 15th of November 1914. He served with the New Zealand Maori Pioneer Battalion in the Dardanelles in 1915 and then in France in 1916.
    When he passed away his next of kin was Mr J.M. Brown of 12 Maude Street, Gisborne.
