      Enlist Octl5, discharge 22.7.19. Wound, face Jul 1916, 3 yrs 139 days, illness early 19, reappoint L Corp Feb 17, training. Died 1960, buried Whakawehi. AWMM
    • Moses went overseas with the 3rd Māori Contingent, which left NZ 5th February
      1916, and joined the Pioneer Battalion in Egypt then went to the Western Front
      His brother - Poutu Hairuha McGregor and cousin Tutepourangi McDonald were also in the third Māori contingent, which was mostly made up of Pacific Islanders (Niue, Rarotonga, Gilbert and Ellice Islanders). Two other cousins Jack Sciascia and Charles Sciascia were in the Wellington Regiment NZEF 1st battalion and served at Gallipoli and in Europe.
      Charles was killed inaction in Belgium.
      While he was in the army Moses was promoted to Lance Corporal and wounded in action on 6
      August 1916 and sent to hospital at Calais in France. Shrapnel hit his cheek while he was in
      the field. He was then sent back to the front.
      He had attended the Louis Gun School and Gas School as part of his training for the front. He was discharged from the army on 25 June 1919.
      His army file says that he received the Victory medal and the British War medal.
      Moses returned to NZ on 22 July 1919 after being in service 3 years and 139 days.
      It is not sure if he returned to his work with his last employer C.B.Higginson but he did continue
      to work in the flax cutting and mill business.
      He did not continue to train to be a minister but supported his whānau in church activities and building projects.
