Biographical information
- SuppNom: Ex 3rd Maori Reinforcements.
George Kohimoka, a Māori returned soldier of World War I, brought a German Luger automatic pistol back to New Zealand as a war souvenir. He kept the weapon at his home until it was stolen in 1936. Following its recovery by police, Kohimoka appeared in the Rotorua Magistrate's Court on 10 September 1936, charged with unlawfully possessing the pistol and ammunition without the necessary licence. He admitted both charges and was fined £1 and costs of 15 shillings for possessing the pistol, and 10 shillings and costs of 10 shillings for possessing the ammunition. The pistol and ammunition were confiscated.
