  • On 5 September 1917 left for France where he joined the 2 Battalion, Canterbury Regiment.

    "On 24 September orders were given to move the next day to the front line near Passchendaele. After days of marching and travel by motorbus the Battalion arrived at the old German Front line at Wieltje, two miles northeast of Ypres. Heslop was involved in the attempt to capture the Gravenstafel and Abraham Heights spur on 12 October. During the attack Heslop was injured, with gunshot wounds to his left arm and shoulder." (Church, p.184)

    Heslop was evacuated to No.1 NZGH, Brockenhurst on 16 Ocotber 1917. He died a week later. AWMM
