It is said he joined the 28th Maori Battalion under the name Aperahama Puhipuhi Walker and was invalided home. I first saw the name P Hautapu, on the roll of honor in the Maori church in Tikitiki. I asked my father was this was and the above is what he told me.Public - Adrian Andre WHETU - Direct descendant - 8 January 2021 - Oral family history - In the Tolaga Bay Cemetery, Gisborne there is a Tombstone with the following details:
(Aperama Puhipuhi) 1st NZEF 20762, Pte P. PUHIPUHI, Maori Pioneer Battn, died 26.10.1963 aged 72 years.
Whether this is Pera Hautapu - I do not know - but I feel quite strongly that it is, as there is not a Aperama Puhipuhi registered in the NZ Maori Pioneer BattalionPublic - Lorraine M - Researcher - 4 March 2016 - Gisborne's Cemetery Records for the Tolaga Bay Cemetery
